# Radyonuzu Monte Etme

<table><thead><tr><th width="346">Dikkate Alınması Gerekenler</th><th>Sebep</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Radyo metal bir tüpe veya plakaya monte edilmelidir.</td><td>Radyonun içinde ısı birikebilir.

{% hint style="info" %}
Ekiplerin uzun süreli çalışma sırasında radyo için soğutucu görevi görecek metal bir tüpe/plakaya monte etmeleri önerilir.
{% endhint %}

## Radyonuzu Nereye Monte Etmelisiniz

İşte VH-109 Robot Radyosunu robotunuza monte edebileceğiniz farklı yerlere bazı örnekler. Bunlar en iyi seçenekten en kötü seçeneğe doğru sıralanmıştır.

## Örnek #1

<figure><img src="/files/dMdajrpebBp5jvJF5i5z" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Bu konfigürasyonda radyo, robotun yapısının dışına monte edilir ve durum LED'leri robotun dışına doğru yönlendirilir.

<div><figure><img src="/files/ZRAPAQq1UtUUmUC2KgEt" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Bu monte etme konfigürasyonunda VH-109'un radyasyon modelinin izometrik görünümü</p></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/wFYEUUrjNfX6NOukmOWx" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Bu monte etme konfigürasyonunda VH-109'un radyasyon modelinin yandan görünümü</p></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/9Ln7ST7ElhNb719xxl8C" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Bu monte etme konfigürasyonunda VH-109'un radyasyon modelinin üstten görünümü</p></figcaption></figure></div>

Son Karar: *<mark style="color:green;">**En iyi**</mark>*

## Örnek #2

<figure><img src="/files/UgUyflPT4ae20iUap7XJ" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<div><figure><img src="/files/igeI4G5NayeTTpKyefvj" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Bu monte etme konfigürasyonunda VH-109'un radyasyon modelinin izometrik görünümü</p></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/gMeilrzlYDyaMb7sDPPp" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Bu monte etme konfigürasyonunda VH-109'un radyasyon modelinin yandan görünümü</p></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/NcjoIUHACnmWWKrcM3iV" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Bu monte etme konfigürasyonunda VH-109'un radyasyon modelinin üstten görünümü</p></figcaption></figure></div>

Son Karar: *<mark style="color:yellow;">**Kabul Edilebilir**</mark>*

## Örnek #3

<figure><img src="/files/XKS4XjZ1ICRfsjQ3xK0F" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Bu konfigürasyonda radyo, durum LED'leri robotun merkez hattına bakacak şekilde robotun a-çerçevesi arasına monte edilmiştir.

<div><figure><img src="/files/fTMNgEcVH4z248iV8joS" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Bu monte etme konfigürasyonunda VH-109'un radyasyon modelinin izometrik görünümü</p></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/Rv8SAeLhAwyxhYEDGg2x" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Bu monte etme konfigürasyonunda VH-109'un radyasyon modelinin yandan görünümü</p></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/cy64xRIWWZkVeRUyfAsy" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Bu monte etme konfigürasyonunda VH-109'un radyasyon modelinin üstten görünümü</p></figcaption></figure></div>

Son Karar: *<mark style="color:red;">**Tavsiye Edilmiyor**</mark>*

## Örnek #4

<figure><img src="/files/LppMDpKjxMjFR196zKVS" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Bu konfigürasyonda radyo, robotun elektronik aksamının geri kalanıyla birlikte bir plaka üzerine monte edilmiştir. Durum LED'leri yukarı doğru bakmaktadır.

<div><figure><img src="/files/Lb6Ryg0oBqTsdNISTVxY" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Bu monte etme konfigürasyonunda VH-109'un radyasyon modelinin izometrik görünümü</p></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/Hqv4sh4clOk7LP65h2So" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Bu monte etme konfigürasyonunda VH-109'un radyasyon modelinin yandan görünümü</p></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/09fmfUirhYtSUJudWEK8" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Bu monte etme konfigürasyonunda VH-109'un radyasyon modelinin üstten görünümü</p></figcaption></figure></div>

Son Karar: *<mark style="color:yellow;">**Değişir**</mark>*

## Örnek #5

<figure><img src="/files/cO1mUFRd4IsvpTuPo9AK" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Bu konfigürasyonda radyo, robotun elektronik aksamının geri kalanıyla birlikte bir plaka üzerine monte edilmiştir. Durum LED'leri aşağıya (yere doğru) bakmaktadır.

<div><figure><img src="/files/viavdtRiFJhDqSV5M106" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Bu monte etme konfigürasyonunda VH-109'un radyasyon modelinin izometrik görünümü</p></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/20uk79ev8sJAes8pgETb" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Bu monte etme konfigürasyonunda VH-109'un radyasyon modelinin yandan görünümü</p></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/2RDgyX9JKg8as5rumDAa" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Bu monte etme konfigürasyonunda VH-109'un radyasyon modelinin üstten görünümü</p></figcaption></figure></div>

Son Karar: *<mark style="color:red;">**Kabul Edilemez**</mark>*

## Radyonuzu Nasıl Monte Edebilirsiniz

Radyonuzu monte etmek için önerilen iki yöntem vardır.

## Fermuarlı Bağlar

Radyo muhafazasının her iki tarafında iki çentik vardır.

<table><thead><tr><th>Kalınlık x Genişlik</th><th>Tedarikçi / Parça Numarası</th><th data-hidden>P/N</th><th data-hidden></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>0.045" x 0.500"</td><td><a href="https://www.mcmaster.com/8127A51">McMaster-Carr / 8127A51</a></td><td></td><td></td></tr><tr><td>0.045" x 1"</td><td><a href="https://www.mcmaster.com/8127A53">McMaster-Carr / 8127A53</a></td><td></td><td></td></tr><tr><td>0.045" x 2"</td><td><a href="https://www.mcmaster.com/8127A61">McMaster-Carr / 8127A61</a></td><td></td><td></td></tr></tbody></table>

{% hint style="info" %}

{% endhint %}

# Radyonuzun Kablolaması

{% hint style="danger" %}
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="danger" %}
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="/files/euNLp5zzHhlffddwiOKz" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Rev Robotics Radyo Güç Modülü Uyarısı

Ekibiniz Rev Robotics'in Radyo Güç Modülünü (RPM) kullanıyorsa, lütfen aşağıdakilere dikkat edin:

{% hint style="danger" %}
Bunu yapmak radyonuza zarar verebilir.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="danger" %}
{% endhint %}

PoE enjeksiyon kablolamasına ilişkin örnekler için [aşağıdaki örnek](#poe-only) bölümüne bakın.

{% hint style="success" %}
Ethernet üzerinden Güç çıkışı varsayılan olarak devre dışıdır
{% endhint %}

| Anahtar Numarası | Bağlantı Noktası |
| ---------------- | ---------------- |
| 1                | AUX1             |
| 2                | AUX2             |

<figure><img src="/files/MoO52osQE5bBIzBTNPRe" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Kablolama Şemaları

Radyoyu robotunuza bağlayabileceğiniz çeşitli yollar vardır. Burada en yaygın kullanım senaryolarını kapsayan bazı yaygın uygulamalar yer almaktadır.

### PoE + 12 VDC

Bu, radyoyu robotunuza bağlamak için önerilen yöntemdir. Bu yöntem, PoE kablosuna bir şey olması durumunda yedek güce sahip olurken Ethernet üzerinden Güç (PoE) kullanmanıza izin verir.

<figure><img src="/files/OGwrH5dWjwzYw8A29DGI" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/q0VYJKKfuGCofdBI7xH5" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="danger" %}
12V + Rev Robotics RPM'yi aynı anda **KULLANMAYIN**.
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="/files/9RDtCkqZEYKXYmK3Ta3t" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Yalnızca PoE

Bu yöntem, yalnızca Ethernet üzerinden Güç (PoE) kullanarak radyoyu robotunuza nasıl bağlayacağınızı anlatmaktadır.

{% hint style="danger" %}
Herhangi bir kablolama kuralını ihlal etmediğinizden emin olmak için lütfen mevcut oyun kılavuzuna başvurun.&#x20;
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="danger" %}
PoE'yi VH-109 radyoda etkinleştirdiyseniz Rev Robotics RPM'yi bir PoE kamera veya cihazla **KULLANMAYIN**.
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="/files/12XyBPEitpqrkWZW7pg6" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="danger" %}
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="/files/ZOUtprUjWzDMpSQqvyJe" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/NJZm7r9cdp85DOZ7jEiT" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Kutu Etiketini Kontrol Edin

```
IP Adresi: 192.168.69.2
Alt Ağ Maskesi: 255.255.255.0
Ağ Geçidi: Boş Bırakın
DNS: 192.168.69.1 veya Boş Bırakın
```

**NOT:** Bu yöntem herhangi bir radyoda çalışacaktır.

## Yapılandırma Sayfasını Kontrol Edin ( >1.2.3 Sadece)

Bilgisayarınızda [statik bir IP](https://www.trendnet.com/press/resource-library/how-to-set-static-ip-address) ayarlayın:

```
IP Adresi: 192.168.69.2
Alt Ağ Maskesi: 255.255.255.0
Ağ Geçidi: Boş Bırakın
DNS: 192.168.69.1 veya Boş Bırakın
```

Radyo bilgisayarınıza bağlıyken, şu adrese gidebilirsiniz: `http://192.168.69.1/`. Bu sizi mevcut ürün yazılımı sürümünü gösteren radyo yapılandırma sayfasına götürecektir.

{% hint style="info" %}

1.2.0'dan önceki sürümler A iç şifreleme anahtarına sahip bir A dış anahtarı ile şifrelenmiştir.\

Bu yöntemde erişim noktası olarak ikinci bir VH-109 Robot Radyosu kullanılır. Bu yöntem, biri robot için diğeri erişim noktası olarak kullanılmak üzere iki adet VH-109 Robot Radyoya sahip olmanızı gerektirir. Buna ek olarak, [bir VH-109'u erişim noktası olarak işlev görecek şekilde programlamanız gerekecektir](https://frc-radio.vivid-hosting.net/getting-started/usage/programming-your-radio#team-access-point-mode).&#x20;

{% hint style="danger" %}
{% endhint %}

VH-113, daha uzun süre çalışmasını sağlayan ek soğutma özelliklerine sahip olması dışında VH-109'a son derece benzerdir.

VH-113 Erişim Noktasına iki yoldan biriyle güç sağlanabilir:

1. VH-113 Erişim Noktasına Ethernet Üzerinden Güç kullanarak güç sağlamak için VH-117 PoE Duvar Adaptörünü kullanmanızı öneririz.
2. VH-113'e 12V güç girişi konektöründen güç verebilirsiniz. 12V\@1A sağlayabilen bir güç kaynağı tedarik etmeniz gerekecektir.

## Dizüstü Bilgisayar Doğrudan VH-109'a

{% hint style="danger" %}
{% endhint %}

## Monte Etme

<details>

</details>

<details>

<summary>VH-109 radyomu motorların yakınına monte edebilir miyim?</summary>

VH-109 6 GHz'lik bir cihazdır. Bu spektrumda çalışan cihazlar farklı RF yayılım özelliklerine sahiptir. VH-109 cihazınızı mümkünse motorlardan uzağa monte etmenizi öneririz.

</details>

## Kablolama

<details>

<summary>Radyoma Nasıl Güç Vermeliyim?</summary>

VH-109 radyosunun 2024 FIRST Şampiyonasında ve sezon dışı birçok yarışmada başarılı bir şekilde kullanılmasının ardından, ekiplerin radyoları nasıl bağlamaları gerektiği konusunda epeyce şey öğrendik. İşte en iyi uygulamalardan bazıları:

1. Ekipler arıza noktalarının sayısını azaltmak için çaba göstermelidir. Bu, radyoyla robotun güç dağıtım sistemi arasındaki cihaz sayısını azaltmak (yani güç modüllerini ve regülatörleri kaldırmak) anlamına gelir.
2. Mümkünse bir ethernet anahtarı kullanmayın. Bunun yerine, ekiplerin VH-109'daki ekstra ethernet bağlantı noktalarından yararlanmalarını öneririz.
3. ir anahtara İHTİYACINIZ varsa, ekipler RoboRIO'yu doğrudan Radyonun RIO bağlantı noktasına takmalıdır.

</details>

## Yapılandırma / Programlama

## Cihaz Yazılımı

<details>

<summary>Radyomda hangi cihaz yazılımı sürümünün olduğunu nasıl bilebilirim?</summary>

Radyonuzda hangi cihaz yazılımı sürümünün olduğunu öğrenmenin birkaç yolu vardır. Bunları görmek için [bu sayfaya](/tuerkce/genel-bakis/cihaz-yazilimini-yukseltme/cihaz-yazilimi-surumunu-kontrol-etme) göz atın.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Resmi etkinliklerde hangi cihaz yazılımı sürümü gereklidir?</summary>

</details>

## Pratik yapmak

<details>

* Evde pratik kurulumunuzu basitleştirir.
* Resmi yarışmalarda kullanılacak kurulumu daha iyi taklit eder.
* Daha yaygın olan 2,4 GHz ve 5 GHz bantlarından önemli ölçüde daha az gürültüye sahip olan 6 GHz bandını kullanmanın avantajından yararlanın.

# Bilinen Sorunlar

<table><thead><tr><th width="60" data-type="number">#</th><th width="141">Tespit Tarihi</th><th width="134">Çözüm Tarihi</th><th width="107">Tip</th><th>Sorun</th><th>Çözüm</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>1</td><td>10/11/2024</td><td>11/03/2024</td><td><mark style="color:red;">Kritik</mark></td><td><a href="/pages/851W2iwmOOXnl6cBCglb"><strong>Flash bellek bozulması önyükleme döngüsüne neden olur.</strong></a></td><td><strong>v1.2.5 (veya üstü) sürümüne yükseltin</strong></td></tr></tbody></table>

# #1 Flash bellek bozulması önyükleme döngüsüne neden olur

**Tip:** <mark style="color:red;">**Kritik**</mark>

## Sorun:&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/vZKGijge4scWm3FBjcD2" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/p0WOaib4bwS73UBLBQVI" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/vG0h4ViCh2mWZSxEOiuZ" alt="" width="398"><figcaption><p>İlk üretim partisindeki radyolarda AUX1 PoE / AUX2 PoE / 2,4 GHz AP etiketleri bulunmayacaktır.</p></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/8EkHxaoCkR6Dm1DT3fCQ" alt="" width="375"><figcaption><p>AUX1 PoE / AUX2 PoE / 2,4 GHz AP etiketleri, radyonuzun ilk üretim partisinin bir parçası OLMADIĞI anlamına gelir. </p></figcaption></figure>

```
const crypto = require("crypto")
const pass = "<SET PASSWORD HERE>"
const salt = crypto.randomBytes(8).toString("base64")
const hash = crypto.createHash("sha256").update(pass + salt).digest("base64")
console.log(`salt: ${salt}\nhash: ${hash}`)
```

5. Docker konteynerini “/path/to/local/folder” yerine yeni oluşturduğunuz klasörün yolunu yazarak aşağıdaki şekilde çalıştırın.

```
docker run -d --name kiosk --restart always -p 80:80 --net=bridge -v "/path/to/local/folder:/app/data" vh109-kiosk
```

```
docker run -d --name kiosk --restart always -p 80:80 --net=bridge -v "/path/to/local/folder:/app/data" -e OVERRIDE_KEY_UPLOAD_HASH="<HASH>" -e OVERRIDE_KEY_UPLOAD_SALT="<SAlT>" vh109-kiosk
```

```
docker stop kiosk
docker rm kiosk
```

## Talimatlar

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Bilgisayarınızı Yapılandırma

Bilgisayarınızı yapılandırmak için iki seçenek vardır:

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="DHCP" %}

{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Ağ Yardımcısı Aracı" %}

{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Manuel Olarak Statik IP Atama" %}

| IP Adresi      | `192.168.69.2`                  |
| -------------- | ------------------------------- |
| Alt Ağ Maskesi | `255.255.255.0`                 |
| Ağ Geçidi      | `Boş Bırakın`                   |
| DNS            | `192.168.69.1 veya Boş Bırakın` |
| {% endtab %}   |                                 |
| {% endtabs %}  |                                 |
| {% endstep %}  |                                 |

{% step %}

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Radyo Yapılandırma Sayfasına Gitme

Bağlantı türüne bağlı olarak, buna üç yoldan biriyle ulaşılabilir:

| Kablolu                                          | `http://192.168.69.1/` |
| ------------------------------------------------ | ---------------------- |
| Kablosuz (DHCP) Fabrika Varsayılanı              | `http://10.0.1.1/`     |
| Kablosuz (DHCP) Ekip Numarası Önceden Ayarlanmış | `http://10.XX.YY.1/` |

{% hint style="info" %}
Ürün yazılımı >1.1.0 (02/04/2024 tarihli sürüm) çalıştıran radyolarda bir mDNS yanıtlayıcı bulunur. Radyoya `http://radio.local/` adresinden de ulaşılabilir.
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}

# VH-109'dan VH-113'e Dönüşüm

##

{% hint style="danger" %}

{% endhint %}

1. Erişim noktası FIRST FMS, [Cheezy Arena](https://github.com/Team254/cheesy-arena) veya `http://10.0.100.2/configuration` adresindeki yerleşik yapılandırma web sayfası aracılığıyla yapılandırılabilir olacaktır.

# FMS AP Cihaz Yazılımı Sürümleri

{% hint style="danger" %}
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}

1.2.0'dan önceki sürümler A iç şifreleme anahtarına sahip bir A dış anahtarı ile şifrelenmiştir.\

Properly mounting your radio is an important first step to making sure your robot connects to the field and remains connected throughout a match.&#x20;

Here are some initial considerations when thinking about where to mount the radio on your robot:

| Consideration                                                                                                 | Reason                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            |
| ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| The radio should be mounted against a metal tube or plate. | Heat can build up inside the radio. By mounting the radio against a metal surface, you can conduct heat away. |
| Do not block the visibility of the status LEDs. | These LEDs are used by field staff to diagnose connectivity problems. Without these LEDs it becomes much harder to troubleshoot why your robot may be having connection issues. |
| Avoid having objects within 12" of the radio (Not including the back of the radio, opposite the status LEDs). | The antennas inside the radio have a [radiation pattern](/tech-specs/radiation-pattern). Having objects pass too close the radio can alter this radiation pattern, and adversely affect how well the radio is able to communicate with the field. |
| The radio should not be fully enclosed by a case or mounting solution. | This traps heat in the radio and can cause the radio to overheat. When the radio is overheating the latency will increase. |

{% hint style="info" %}
It is recommended that teams mount against a metal tube/plate to act as a heatsink for the radio during extended operation.
{% endhint %}

## Where To Mount Your Radio

Here are some examples of different places you can mount the VH-109 Robot Radio to your robot. These are listed in order from best to worst case scenario.&#x20;

### Example #1

<figure><img src="/files/dMdajrpebBp5jvJF5i5z" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

In this configuration the radio is mounted on the outside of the robot's structure, with the status LEDs pointed towards the outside of the robot.&#x20;

<div><figure><img src="/files/ZRAPAQq1UtUUmUC2KgEt" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Isometric view of the VH-109's radiation pattern in this mounting configuration</p></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/wFYEUUrjNfX6NOukmOWx" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Side view of the VH-109's radiation pattern in this mounting configuration</p></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/9Ln7ST7ElhNb719xxl8C" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Top view of the VH-109's radiation pattern in this mounting configuration</p></figcaption></figure></div>

This is the best configuration because it creates the least amount of interference for the radio's antennas. The status LEDs are visible and make it easy for field staff to read them. The radio is mounted relatively high on the robot. There are very few metal obstructions around the antenna.&#x20;

Final Verdict: *<mark style="color:green;">**Best**</mark>*

### Example #2

<figure><img src="/files/UgUyflPT4ae20iUap7XJ" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

In this configuration the radio is mounted between the robot's a-frame, with the status LEDs pointed towards the outside of the robot. However, there is a transparent plastic panel covering the status LEDs.&#x20;

<div><figure><img src="/files/igeI4G5NayeTTpKyefvj" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Isometric view of the VH-109's radiation pattern in this mounting configuration</p></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/gMeilrzlYDyaMb7sDPPp" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Side view of the VH-109's radiation pattern in this mounting configuration</p></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/NcjoIUHACnmWWKrcM3iV" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Top view of the VH-109's radiation pattern in this mounting configuration</p></figcaption></figure></div>

This configuration is not the best but is still acceptable. The robot's a-frame is surrounding the sides of the radio, which will affect antenna performance. However, the plastic panel doesn't impact antenna performance, which allows the radio to create a good link with the field access point (AP).

Final Verdict: *<mark style="color:yellow;">**Acceptable**</mark>*

### Example #3

<figure><img src="/files/XKS4XjZ1ICRfsjQ3xK0F" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

In this configuration the radio is mounted between the robot's a-frame, with the status LEDs pointed towards the centerline of the robot.&#x20;

<div><figure><img src="/files/fTMNgEcVH4z248iV8joS" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Isometric view of the VH-109's radiation pattern in this mounting configuration</p></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/Rv8SAeLhAwyxhYEDGg2x" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Side view of the VH-109's radiation pattern in this mounting configuration</p></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/cy64xRIWWZkVeRUyfAsy" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Top view of the VH-109's radiation pattern in this mounting configuration</p></figcaption></figure></div>

This is not a good mounting location for the radio. First, field staff will have a harder time seeing the status LEDs, which will make it harder for them to help you troubleshoot your robot. More importantly, the radio is broadcasting its signal into the rest of the robot's structure. This configuration has a greater impact on antenna performance, and likely cause the robot to have communication problems with the field access point (AP).

Final Verdict: *<mark style="color:red;">**Not Recommended**</mark>*

### Example #4

<figure><img src="/files/LppMDpKjxMjFR196zKVS" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

In this configuration the radio is mounted on a plate with the rest of the robot's electronics. The status LEDs are pointing upwards.

<div><figure><img src="/files/Lb6Ryg0oBqTsdNISTVxY" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Isometric view of the VH-109's radiation pattern in this mounting configuration</p></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/Hqv4sh4clOk7LP65h2So" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Side view of the VH-109's radiation pattern in this mounting configuration</p></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/09fmfUirhYtSUJudWEK8" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Top view of the VH-109's radiation pattern in this mounting configuration</p></figcaption></figure></div>

This scenario depends on other factors to determine if it could be satisfactory. In this specific example, the radio is broadcasting into an arm, which is going to negatively impact performance. If there were no obstructions above the radio, then this would be an acceptable configuration.&#x20;

Final Verdict: *<mark style="color:yellow;">**Depends**</mark>*

### Example #5

<figure><img src="/files/cO1mUFRd4IsvpTuPo9AK" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

In this configuration the radio is mounted on a plate with the rest of the robot's electronics. The status LEDs are pointing downward (towards the ground).

<div><figure><img src="/files/viavdtRiFJhDqSV5M106" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Isometric view of the VH-109's radiation pattern in this mounting configuration</p></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/20uk79ev8sJAes8pgETb" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Side view of the VH-109's radiation pattern in this mounting configuration</p></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/2RDgyX9JKg8as5rumDAa" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Top view of the VH-109's radiation pattern in this mounting configuration</p></figcaption></figure></div>

*This is one of the worst ways you can mount your radio*. In this scenario the radio is broadcasting into the ground, which has a significant impact on performance. In this scenario the field access point (AP) will likely have a hard time maintaining a good connection to the radio throughout the match.&#x20;

Final Verdict: *<mark style="color:red;">**Not Acceptable**</mark>*

## How You Can Mount Your Radio

There are two recommended methods to mount your radio.&#x20;

### Zip Ties

The radio housing has two notches on either side. These notches are sized to fit a 1/4" wide zip tie ([McMaster-Carr P/N 70215K57](https://www.mcmaster.com/70215K57)). When zip ties can be run through these notches and around a part of your robot's structure to rigidly mount the radio to the robot.&#x20;

Removing the radio is easy, just cut the zip ties and unplug the cables.&#x20;

### VHB Tape

Another recommended solution is to use VHB tape. This is a high strength foam tape that can create a rigid mechanical connection between your robot and the radio.

Here are some examples of recommended VHB tape:

<table><thead><tr><th>Thickness x Width</th><th>Supplier / Part Number</th><th data-hidden>P/N</th><th data-hidden></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>0.045" x 0.500"</td><td><a href="https://www.mcmaster.com/8127A51">McMaster-Carr / 8127A51</a></td><td></td><td></td></tr><tr><td>0.045" x 1"</td><td><a href="https://www.mcmaster.com/8127A53">McMaster-Carr / 8127A53</a></td><td></td><td></td></tr><tr><td>0.045" x 2"</td><td><a href="https://www.mcmaster.com/8127A61">McMaster-Carr / 8127A61</a></td><td></td><td></td></tr></tbody></table>

It's possible to remove the radio when using VHB, but keep in mind that VHB creates a more permanent bond than zip ties. Removing a radio mounted with VHB will require some force. Be careful not to damage your radio in the process of removing it.&#x20;

Zip tie notches are included in the event that teams opt out of using VHB or another adhesive to attach the radio to their robots.

### Custom Mount

Teams are more than welcome to design their own mounting solutions for the radio. However, there are some important considerations teams should make:&#x20;

### Do Not Fully Enclose The Radio

Creating a mount that encases the radio in a 3D printed or plastic housing traps heat. This can cause the radio to overheat during a match, which will cause the radio latency to increase.&#x20;

{% hint style="info" %}
**What is Latency?**

Latency is the amount of time is takes for packets of data to travel from one device to another. In the case of the VH-109 radio, it's the amount of time it takes for packets of data to travel from your driver station to the robot.&#x20;

In other words, the higher the latency is the more delayed your controls will be. Normally this doesn't become noticeable to a driver until latency reaches around 120ms.
{% endhint %}

Under normal operating conditions, the latency between the radio and the driver station is no more than 5ms. When the radio gets hot, this latency will increase to around 40ms. While this is still well under the 120ms mentioned above, your radio will not be operating at peak performance.&#x20;

# Wiring Your Radio

{% hint style="danger" %}
These diagrams are meant to illustrate how to wire the VH-109 robot radio. We did our best to make sure that these are legal configurations, however these may not always be up to date with rule changes. The [FRC Game Manual](https://www.firstinspires.org/resource-library/frc/competition-manual-qa-system) is the ultimate authority on legality. If you have questions about legality, please submit a question to the [FRC Q\&A](https://frc-qa.firstinspires.org/).
{% endhint %}

## Powering Your Radio

The VH-109 radio was designed to operate directly off battery voltage but is compatible with the sources of radio power for the OM5P radio. The radio can also be dual powered using both the 12V Weidmuller DC input or using Passive Power over Ethernet on the RIO port simultaneously however, the inputs need the SAME source and voltage.

{% hint style="danger" %}
When configured as a **WIRELESS ACCESS POINT**, due to regulatory requirements, the VH-109 radio **cannot be powered using a battery source** and is for **Indoor Use Only**. The device is regulated by the **FCC** **LPI** (Low Power Indoor) requirements when in this mode. \
\
Only when the VH-109 radio is configured as an **INDOOR CLIENT DEVICE (STA)** may it be powered using a battery.\
\
When configured as a **WIRELESS ACCESS POINT**, the device must be powered using an AC to DC adapter that is sold separately.&#x20;
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="/files/DRZu2JCGx36IlwlyjLaq" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Rev Robotics Radio Power Module Warning

If your team is using the Radio Power Module (RPM) from Rev Robotics, please be aware of the following:

{% hint style="danger" %}
**DO NOT** use both the RPM and 12VDC to power the radio. Doing this can damage your radio.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="danger" %}
If you have enabled PoE on the VH-109 Radio, **DO NOT** use the RPM and a PoE camera/device at the same time.
{% endhint %}

The Rev Robotics Radio Power Module outputs PoE at 18VDC.&#x20;

While the VH-109 radio can handle up to 19VDC, this wiring method will cause damage to the Rev Robotics Radio Power Module.&#x20;

Since the Rev Robotics Radio Power Module outputs 18VDC, all downstream devices need to be able to handle 18VDC. As of the 2024 FRC season, most of the cameras typically used by teams do not support 18VDC. This will damage the camera.

### Power over Ethernet (PoE) For Downstream Devices

The VH-109 radio provides POE passthrough to two ports labeled AUX1 and AUX2. Please use caution when using these ports as they can be configured to have energized DC pins, and some devices may suffer damage if not designed for Passive POE injection.

Refer to the [example below](#poe-only) section for examples on PoE injection wiring.

By default, PoE output on AUX1 and AUX2 is DISABLED. By enabling the PoE output using the switches on the bottom of the radio, the corresponding ethernet port will be energized with the same voltage level provided by either the PoE input on the RIO port and/or the 12V Weidmuller input.

Power over Ethernet is controlled using the DIP switches on the bottom face of the radio.

{% hint style="success" %}
Power over Ethernet output is disabled by default
{% endhint %}

| Switch Number | Port |
| ------------- | ---- |
| 1             | AUX1 |
| 2             | AUX2 |

<figure><img src="/files/IXBrweCOrquMzGnJVBsD" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Wiring Diagrams

There are several ways in which you can wire the radio into your robot. Here are some common applications that cover the most common scenarios.

### PoE + 12 VDC

This is the recommended method of wiring the radio to your robot. This method allows you to utilize Power over Ethernet (PoE), while having redundant backup power in case something happens to the PoE cable.&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/ESQ21DWIBJr7fgZZto2v" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### PoE Only

This method discusses how to wire the radio to your robot using only Power over Ethernet (PoE).&#x20;

{% hint style="danger" %}
Please reference the current game manual to ensure that you are not violating any wiring rules.&#x20;
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="danger" %}
**DO NOT** use the Rev Robotics RPM with a PoE camera or device if you have enabled PoE on the VH-109 radio.
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="/files/12XyBPEitpqrkWZW7pg6" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Using an Ethernet Switch

This method shows how to use an ethernet switch with the VH-109 radio.

{% hint style="danger" %}
DO NOT plug a switch into the RIO port on the VH-109 radio without using a power injector like the Rev Robotics RPM or passive injection cables. Without these, power can be back fed which can damage the switch.&#x20;
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="/files/ZOUtprUjWzDMpSQqvyJe" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Tethering

This discusses how to tether to your robot while on the practice field at a competition.&#x20;

# Programming Your Radio At Home

{% hint style="info" %}
When at an official FIRST event, the Vivid-Hosting Radio Kiosk will be available for teams to easily program their radios with a GUI interface.&#x20;
{% endhint %}

## Overview

This page will discuss how to program your VH-109 Robot Radio at home. When at an official FIRST event, you will use the Vivid-Hosting Radio Kiosk to program your radio.

## Instructions

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Configure Your Computer

There are two options to configure your computer:

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="DHCP" %}
If the configuring computer has it's network interface configured to obtain an IP address via DHCP, the computer will be able to reach the VH-109 device at `10.XX.YY.1` (Client/STA mode) or `10.XX.YY.4` (AP mode).&#x20;

VH-109's programmed at the factory are configured to team #1 in Client/STA mode, setting the IP address to `10.0.1.1`.
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Network Assistant Tool" %}
The [Network Assistant Tool](/overview/programming-your-radio-at-home/network-assistant-tool) is a custom tool developed by Vivid-Hosting to configure your computer to connect to your VH-109 radio.&#x20;

Use the instructions on the Network Assistant Tool page to set a static IP address on your computer, then proceed to Step 2.
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Manually Assign Static IP" %}
The VH-109 device is also pre-programmed with a failsafe/management IP address in the `192.168.69.0/24` subnet to reach the management IP of the VH-109 radio.\
\
For example, the network interface on your driver station laptop can be temporarily configured to:

| IP Address    | `192.168.69.2`                |
| ------------- | ----------------------------- |
| Subnet Mask   | `255.255.255.0`               |
| Gateway       | `Leave Blank`                 |
| DNS           | `192.168.69.1 or Leave Blank` |
| {% endtab %}  |                               |
| {% endtabs %} |                               |
| {% endstep %} |                               |

{% step %}

### Connect To Your Radio

Create a wired or wireless connection between the computer and the radio.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Navigate To Radio Configuration Page

Depending on the type of connection, this can be reached one of three ways:

<table data-header-hidden><thead><tr><th width="334"></th><th></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Wired</td><td><code>http://192.168.69.1/</code></td></tr><tr><td>Wireless (DHCP) Factory Default</td><td><code>http://10.0.1.1/</code></td></tr><tr><td>Wireless (DHCP) Team Number Previously Set</td><td><code>http://10.XX.YY.1/</code></td></tr></tbody></table>

{% hint style="info" %}
Radios running firmware >1.1.0 (released 02/04/2024) include an mDNS responder. The radio can also be reached at `http://radio.local/`
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}

### Configure The Radio

<figure><img src="/files/5e5BWqms2sQGFUz9N7uC" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

| Field                               | Description                                                                                                                          |
| ----------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Robot Radio Mode** | This means the device will act like a robot radio (Client/STA Mode) |
| **Access Point Mode** | This means the device will [act like an access point](/access-points/setting-vh-109-to-access-point-mode) for a radio to connect to. |
| **Enable 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi** | This this enables the 2.4 GHz radio for diagnostic/limited driver station connection |
| **Enable QoS BW Limit** | This enables the 7 Mbps limit on the radio. This also also applies to the 2.4 GHz radio interface |
| **Enable SystemCore Mode** | This changes the default DHCP reservation for roboRIO-XXYY-FRC to robot.local |
| **Team Number** | Your team's FRC team number |
| **SSID Suffix** | A suffix that is appended to the end of the SSID. Ex: "1538-coolbot" |
| **WPA Key For 6GHz Connection** | The key for 6GHz connection |
| **WPA Key For 2.4GHz Access Point** | The key for 2.4GHz connection ([See Note](#dip-switch-3-enabled)) |

{% hint style="info" %}
When DIP switch #3 is in the ON position AND a valid connection to an 6GHz 802.11ax Wi-Fi access point is not present, the radio will simultaneously broadcast as a 2.4GHz 802.11ax Wi-Fi access point with the SSID of "FRC-XXYY" where XXYY is the programmed team number. If a suffix is provided, the SSID will be "FRC-XXYY-SUFFIX" where SUFFIX is the programmed suffix identifier.

Once the radio successfully connects to a 6GHz 802.11ax Wi-Fi access point, the 2.4Ghz 802.11ax Wi-Fi access point will shut down until the device is power cycled.

Please keep in mind that when using the Access Point feature enabled by DIP switch #3, radio performance can be severely affected in highly congested 2.4 GHz wireless environments. It is recommended that teams use a SECOND radio and configure it in "Team Access Point Mode".
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Click Configure

Once you've configured the device, click configure to save it to the radio.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

# Checking Firmware Version

There are several ways you can tell what version of firmware is on your radio.

## 2025 Kit of Parts Radios

All radios shipped in the 2025 Kit of Parts come with v1.1.2 loaded on them.&#x20;

## Check The Box Label

Every box the radio ships in has a label with the firmware version on it. This is only reliable for radios where the firmware has never been updated.&#x20;

## Check The Status Page

Set a [static IP](https://www.trendnet.com/press/resource-library/how-to-set-static-ip-address) on your computer:

```
IP Address: 192.168.69.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: Leave Blank
DNS: 192.168.69.1 or Leave Blank
```

With the radio connected to your computer, you can go to `http://192.168.69.1/status`. This page will display the current firmware version loaded on the radio.&#x20;

**NOTE:** This method will work on any radio.

## Check The Config Page (>1.2.3 Only)

Set a [static IP](https://www.trendnet.com/press/resource-library/how-to-set-static-ip-address) on your computer:

```
IP Address: 192.168.69.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: Leave Blank
DNS: 192.168.69.1 or Leave Blank
```

With the radio connected to your computer, you can go to `http://192.168.69.1/`. This will take you to the radio configuration page which will display the current firmware version.&#x20;

**Note:** This method only works if the radio has been updated to 1.2.3 or greater.&#x20;

# Firmware Releases

{% hint style="info" %}
**Attempting to reload firmware after upgrading to 1.2.x?**

Releases prior to 1.2.0 were encrypted with an outer key A with an inner encryption key A.\
Starting with release 1.2.0, releases are encrypted with an outer key of encryption key A, but, has a new inner encryption key B.

If you attempt to re-upload the 1.2.x firmware it will fail to decrypt as it was signed and encrypted with key A.

You must load the other 1.2.x → 1.2.x releases of your choosing in the right two tabs as those releases were signed/encrypted with key B.
{% endhint %}

## What Version Is Required For Official Competitions?

Radios must be updated to at least 2.0.0 to be used at official events in the 2026 FIRST FRC Competition season. If your radio is running a version prior to 2.0.0, it will be upgraded to the latest version when you use the Radio Kiosk at an official FIRST event.&#x20;

# Validating RF Performance

## Overview

Starting in the VH-109 1.2.0 firmware release, teams will be able to validate RF performance in regard to their mounting configuration on their robot.

An RF performance indicator is displayed in both "Robot Radio" and "Access Point" modes.

<figure><img src="/files/9eAk0PQTJYittIWPolMq" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

When configured as an access point, additional details are displayed.

<figure><img src="/files/3lgqw8LpRmrVVgqalfWr" alt=""><figcaption><p>Connectivity Statistics displayed while in Team Access Point mode</p></figcaption></figure>

## Connection Quality

The connection quality levels are as follows:

| Quality Level                                        | Pass/Fail |
| ---------------------------------------------------- | --------- |
| <mark style="color:green;">Excellent</mark> (4 Bars) | Pass      |
| <mark style="color:green;">Good</mark> (3 Bars)      | Pass      |
| <mark style="color:orange;">Caution</mark> (2 Bars)  | Pass      |
| <mark style="color:red;">Warning</mark> (1 Bar)      | Fail      |

When using a VH-109 in the team access point mode, ensure that the VH-109 is oriented such that the LEDs are facing toward the field and ethernet ports are facing toward the Red and Blue alliance stations. The VH-109 in the team access point mode should be placed at the scoring table position at an elevated position using the stand provided in the ***VH-109 -> VH-113 Conversion Kit***

Navigate to the configuration page assigned to the team number at **`http://10.XX.YY.4/`**

The connection quality for the link should be "<mark style="color:green;">Excellent</mark>" or "<mark style="color:green;">Good</mark>". When "<mark style="color:orange;">Caution</mark>" is displayed often, try an alternative mounting location for your radio based on the [Mounting Your Radio](/overview/mounting-your-radio) guide.

When "<mark style="color:red;">Warning</mark>" is displayed, your radio MUST be moved to ensure a competitive experience during a match.

# Practicing At Home

## Overview

This page discusses how to run your robot at home with the VH-109 radio. These methods are organized in the order that requires the least amount of effort/time for teams.&#x20;

## VH-109 As An Access Point (Recommended)

This method uses a second VH-109 Robot Radio as an access point. The method does require you to have two VH-109 Robot Radios, one for the robot and one to act as an access point. In addition, you will need to [program one VH-109 to be in Access Point Mode](/access-points/setting-vh-109-to-access-point-mode).&#x20;

In addition, the VH-109 does not have the cooling features found in the VH-113. If you are using the VH-109 Robot Radio as an access point, we strongly recommend that you use it in conjunction with a heatsink.

While this method is a little more involved (need to re-configure one VH-109 and need to use a heatsink), this allows teams to use hardware they likely already have to take advantage of the added performance and reliability of Wi-Fi 6E.

In addition, using a switch in this setup allows for other laptops (ex: programming laptops) to connect to the robot, making wireless programming and debugging easier.

In order to power the VH-109 Robot Radio being used as an access point, we recommend using the VH-117 PoE Wall Adapter. This will enable you to power the VH-109 from a wall outlet using Power over Ethernet. If you aren't using the VH-117 PoE Wall Adapter, you can use the 12V input on the VH-109 Robot Radio. You will need to use a power supply that can provide 12V\@1A.&#x20;

{% hint style="danger" %}
You cannot legally use a battery to power a VH-109 that has been set to Access Point mode
{% endhint %}

### Connectivity Diagram

<figure><img src="/files/fXdxh8wcwYD08ZtxW1nL" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## VH-113 Access Point

This configuration is the closest you can get to playing on a real field. This uses the VH-113 Access Point, which is the wireless access point used on all official fields. This not only allows teams to take advantage of the added performance and reliability of Wi-Fi 6E, but also test their robot on hardware that is almost identical to what is used on a real field.&#x20;

In order to setup this option, you will need to purchase the VH-113 Access Point. The VH-113 is extremely similar to the VH-109, except that it has additional cooling features which allow it to run for longer periods of time.&#x20;

The VH-113 Access Point can be powered through one of two ways:

1. We recommend using the VH-117 PoE Wall Adapter to power the VH-113 Access Point using Power over Ethernet.&#x20;
2. You can power the VH-113 through the 12V power input connector. You will need to supply a power supply capable of providing 12V\@1A.

### What You'll Need

## Laptop Direct To VH-109

Some laptops do have Wi-Fi 6E functionality. These laptops can connect directly to the VH-113 Robot Access Point, or a VH-109 configured as an Access Point without any other hardware.

### What You'll Need

<table><thead><tr><th width="97">Qty</th><th width="139">Part Number</th><th>Description</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>2</td><td>VH-109</td><td><p>One VH-109 on your robot running Radio firmware in "robot" mode</p><p></p><p>One VH-109 field side running the Radio firmware in "access point" mode</p></td></tr><tr><td>1</td><td>N/A</td><td>Wi-Fi 6E Capable Laptop</td></tr></tbody></table>

### Connectivity Diagram

<figure><img src="/files/S8uD3zKQDP5JaNQc7EWu" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## 2.4GHz Access Point

{% hint style="danger" %}
Due to poor performance, Vivid-Hosting does not recommend using this method for practicing at home. You should only use this method in extreme cases.
{% endhint %}

This configuration uses the 2.4GHz capability of the VH-109 Robot Radio to connect to your driver station laptop.&#x20;

In order to make this work, you will need to remove the DIP Switch cover sticker from the bottom of the VH-109 Robot Radio and change switch #3 to the ON position.&#x20;

It is important to note that using this configuration will likely lead to poor wireless performance. School campuses tend to be noisy environments, with many Wi-Fi networks broadcasting at 2.4GHz. In addition, the performance will be degraded by any older wireless hardware on the driver station laptop.&#x20;

In testing, we were able to reach PHY rates of 286Mbps. This was in an uncongested area, using an 802.11ax compatible wireless adapter. However, actual performance will be much lower depending on how much wireless congestion there is, and the age of the wireless adapter on the driver station laptop.&#x20;

We only recommend this method in extreme cases.

## VH-113 Full Field

If you are running an offseason event or scrimmage and want to use the VH-113 Access Point, this is the setup you should use.&#x20;

### What You'll Need

<table><thead><tr><th width="97">Qty</th><th width="139">Part Number</th><th>Description</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>6</td><td>N/A</td><td>Driver Station (DS)</td></tr><tr><td>6</td><td>N/A</td><td>Ethernet Cables Between Switch &#x26;Driver Stations</td></tr><tr><td>1</td><td>N/A</td><td>Computer For Running FMS</td></tr><tr><td>1</td><td>N/A</td><td>802.1q Capable Managed Switch</td></tr><tr><td>1</td><td>N/A</td><td>Ethernet Cable Between FMS Computer &#x26; Switch</td></tr><tr><td>1</td><td>N/A</td><td>Ethernet Cable Between Switch &#x26; VH-113 Access Point</td></tr><tr><td>1</td><td>VH-113</td><td>Access Point</td></tr></tbody></table>

### Wiring Diagram

<figure><img src="/files/Lt3jiTEEodgP3D6dteRA" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## VH-109 Full Field

This setup should be used if you need to run a full field, but don't have a VH-113. This does require that you re-program a VH-109 with the AP Firmware, allowing it to setup SSIDs and VLANs for 6 different robots.

### What You'll Need

<table><thead><tr><th width="97">Qty</th><th width="139">Part Number</th><th>Description</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>6</td><td>N/A</td><td>Driver Station (DS)</td></tr><tr><td>6</td><td>N/A</td><td>Ethernet Cables Between Switch &#x26;Driver Stations</td></tr><tr><td>1</td><td>N/A</td><td>Computer For Running FMS</td></tr><tr><td>1</td><td>N/A</td><td>802.1q Capable Managed Switch</td></tr><tr><td>1</td><td>N/A</td><td>Ethernet Cable Between FMS Computer &#x26; Switch</td></tr><tr><td>1</td><td>N/A</td><td>Ethernet Cable Between Switch &#x26; VH-113 Access Point</td></tr><tr><td>1</td><td>VH-109</td><td>Robot Radio (reprogrammed with AP Firmware)</td></tr></tbody></table>

# Frequently Asked Questions

## Overview

This page is a compilation of some frequently asked questions we receive from teams, along with the answers to these questions.

## General

<details>

<summary>Where should I go for support and RMAs?</summary>

You should contact WestCoast Products (<support@westcoastproducts.com>) for all support issues.&#x20;

In the event that WCP cannot help you resolve your issue; they will elevate it to Vivid-Hosting.

</details>

## Mounting

<details>

<summary>Can I put my VH-109 in a 3D printed enclosure or mount?</summary>

You can 3D print custom brackets to help mount the VH-109.&#x20;

However, we highly recommend that teams DO NOT put the VH-109 into an enclosure. Enclosing the VH-109 will trap heat and potentially reduce the performance of the VH-109.&#x20;

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can I mount my VH-109 radio near motors?</summary>

The VH-109 is a 6 GHz device. Devices that operate on this spectrum have different RF propagation characteristics. We suggest mounting your VH-109 away from motors if at all possible.&#x20;

</details>

## Wiring

<details>

<summary>How Should I Power My Radio?</summary>

After a successful deployment of the VH-109 radio at the 2024 FIRST Championship and many offseason competitions, we have learned quite a bit about how teams should wire radios. Here are some of the best practices:

1. Teams should strive to reduce the number of failure points. This means reducing the number of devices (i.e. removing power modules and regulators) that are between the radio and the robot's power distribution system.&#x20;
2. If possible, do not use an ethernet switch. Instead, we recommend that teams take advantage of the extra ethernet ports on the VH-109.
3. If you NEED a switch, teams should still plug the RoboRIO directly into the Radio's RIO port.&#x20;

</details>

## Configuring / Programming

## Firmware

<details>

<summary>How do I know what firmware version is on my radio?</summary>

There are several ways to know what firmware version is on your radio. Check out [this page](/overview/upgrading-firmware/checking-firmware-version) to see them.&#x20;

</details>

<details>

<summary>What firmware version is required at official events?</summary>

For the 2025 FRC season, all radios must be on at least 1.3.0. Any radios running a version prior to this will be automatically updated to the latest release when they configure their radios using the Radio Kiosk tool at an official event.&#x20;

</details>

## Practicing

<details>

<summary>Do I need a second radio?</summary>

Technically no, however, we strongly recommend using a second radio as an access point for several reasons:&#x20;

* Simplify your at home practice setup.
* Better mimics the setup that will be used at official competitions.
* Take advantage of using the 6 GHz band, which has significantly less noise than the more common 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.&#x20;

# Known Issues

Below is a list of known issues with the VH-109 and VH-113 along with recommended solution.

<table><thead><tr><th width="75" data-type="number">#</th><th width="141">Discover Date</th><th width="134">Solution Date</th><th width="107">Type</th><th>Problem</th><th>Solution</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>1</td><td>10/11/2024</td><td>11/03/2024</td><td><mark style="color:red;">Critical</mark></td><td><a href="/pages/iUjyGw6IWTOyeZIqrVAB">Flash memory corruption causes bootloop.</a></td><td><a href="/pages/iUjyGw6IWTOyeZIqrVAB">Upgrade to v1.2.5 (or greater)</a></td></tr></tbody></table>

# #1 Flash memory corruption causes bootloop

**Type:** <mark style="color:red;">**Critical**</mark>

## Problem:&#x20;

Some teams have returned radios that were stuck in a bootloop. This means that while the radio is coming up, it reboots on its own.&#x20;

## Investigation

Upon further investigation, these units appear to have part of their flash memory corrupted. The corrupted flash memory is factory burned and contains calibration and regulatory limits.&#x20;

Here's an example:&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/vZKGijge4scWm3FBjcD2" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Affected Units

It's possible that all units can be affected by this issue.&#x20;

Anecdotally, it appears that this corruption can happen when upgrading from firmware versions prior to 1.2.0. At the moment we believe that radios from the first production run are affected. These would have been distributed at the 2024 FIRST Championship and some units sold during 2024. These units can be identified by having a S/N that starts with 2401:

<figure><img src="/files/p0WOaib4bwS73UBLBQVI" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Additionally, radios from the first production batch will have numbered DIP switches and won't have the AUX1/AUX2/AP labels:&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/vG0h4ViCh2mWZSxEOiuZ" alt="" width="398"><figcaption><p>Radios from the first production batch will not have AUX1 PoE / AUX2 PoE / 2.4 GHz AP labels.</p></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/8EkHxaoCkR6Dm1DT3fCQ" alt="" width="375"><figcaption><p>AUX1 PoE / AUX2 PoE / 2.4 GHz AP labels mean your radio is NOT part of the first production batch. </p></figcaption></figure>

## Solution

A mitigation has been developed and introduced in firmware version 1.2.5. <mark style="color:red;">**All teams should update their radios to v1.2.5 (or greater) ASAP to avoid potential issues.**</mark>&#x20;

### What if your radio is affected?

If your radio is affected by this issue, it can be recovered using remote support. Unfortunately the only way to recover this requires restricted access to the device as the partition we’re accessing was explicitly called out as a protected region during the regulatory approvals.

Please contact WestCoast Products support and they'll coordinate remote support.&#x20;

Here's an example of how remote support works:

### Alternate Installation

<details>

<summary>Installation (Manual)</summary>

The only requirements are that Docker is installed and a network interface (Ethernet adapter) is configured to 192.168.69.2/24

1. Assign the IP address of 192.168.69.2 with a netmask of 255.255.255.0 and no default gateway to your ethernet adapter of choice
2. From a terminal open to the folder containing `vh109-kiosk-0_2_0.tar.gz`, run `docker image load --input vh109-kiosk-0_2_0.tar.gz`. This loads the docker image from the archive.&#x20;
3. If you don't need to change the default password ("supercoolpassword"), skip to step 4. The password is set using a hash and salt. As a hacky solution, the salt and hash can be generated by running the following in node (or any online NodeJS compiler).

```
const crypto = require("crypto")
const pass = "<SET PASSWORD HERE>"
const salt = crypto.randomBytes(8).toString("base64")
const hash = crypto.createHash("sha256").update(pass + salt).digest("base64")
console.log(`salt: ${salt}\nhash: ${hash}`)
```

4. To persist the team keys data, we need to mount a local folder to the docker container. Create a data folder in the desired location. It must be referenced by **absolute path** and have the desired security for the raw team keys csv data.
5. Run the docker container with the following, replacing "/path/to/local/folder" with the path to the folder you just created.

```
docker run -d --name kiosk --restart always -p 80:80 --net=bridge -v "/path/to/local/folder:/app/data" vh109-kiosk
```

If you created a custom password, use this command and also replace `<HASH>` and `<SALT>` with what you generated.

```
docker run -d --name kiosk --restart always -p 80:80 --net=bridge -v "/path/to/local/folder:/app/data" -e OVERRIDE_KEY_UPLOAD_HASH="<HASH>" -e OVERRIDE_KEY_UPLOAD_SALT="<SAlT>" vh109-kiosk
```

**If you get an error about a container with the name `kiosk` already being in use, run the following to remove it.**

```
docker stop kiosk
docker rm kiosk
```

6. At this point, the kiosk should be running at [http://localhost](http://localhost/) and auto restart as long as docker auto restarts.
7. Upload your key material in CSV format (team,key) at [http://localhost/upload](#releases)
8. The kiosk is now ready for use!

# Programming Your Radio (Advanced)

### REST API

A RESTful API interface is included to place the radio in "Team Bridge" or "Team Access Point" mode.&#x20;

#### Configuring as an Indoor Client/STA (TEAM\_ROBOT\_RADIO)

{% code overflow="wrap" fullWidth="false" %}

```
curl -XPOST http://192.168.69.1/configuration -d '{"mode":"TEAM_ROBOT_RADIO", "teamNumber":1538,"wpaKey6":"SeCuRe-6Ghz-Key","wpaKey24":"My-2.4Ghz-Key"}'
```

{% endcode %}

By placing the radio into "Robot Radio" or "TEAM\_ROBOT\_RADIO" mode, the radio will be configured to connect to an 802.11ax Wi-Fi 6E access point with the corresponding SSID of the team number listed.&#x20;

| JSON Key   | Description                                    | Value                                   |
| ---------- | ---------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------- |

<figure><img src="/files/JfNFqvtNTKpQy5ivF77M" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Using the **#2 Phillips Screwdriver**, remove the (4x) case screws shown in the locations indicated above.&#x20;
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Remove The Back Cover

<figure><img src="/files/O5ZyDq6wDMsAxSm7f9gb" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Even with the back cover removed, there are four snaps that are keeping it attached. To remove these, you'll need to press on the (long) sides of the back cover until they release.&#x20;

You can use a flathead screwdriver to pop the back cover off. However, doing this can damage the plastic housings and/or the PCBA.&#x20;

{% hint style="danger" %}
**DO NOT** remove the PCBA from the front housing. The radio's antennas are carefully attached to the front housing. Removing the PCBA from the front housing can damage the antennas and permanently affect wireless performance.&#x20;
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Remove (2x) Resistors

<figure><img src="/files/fDx9I1NLAjYo4NhqKagO" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/OGTVhMm2DGKn1hFLfaNm" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Using the **soldering iron**, remove the two resistors indicated in the images above.&#x20;
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Clean Up Excess Solder

<figure><img src="/files/D2dHPdDO5Al6OehvqX2S" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Use the **soldering iron** and **solder wick** to remove excess solder. Check to make sure there are no solder bridges between the four pads as this can create problems later.&#x20;
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Install Flex PCBA

<figure><img src="/files/Nw8NmaE29yLSBrvO72Ud" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Line up the flex PCBA from the V1.5 upgrade kit in the orientation shown.&#x20;

With the flex PCBA in place, solder it in (5) locations:&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/57UqkWNi6qcodaZyee7Z" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

We recommend soldering in the order shown in the image above as this will help keep the flex PCB in place while soldering.&#x20;
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Install The Back Cover

<figure><img src="/files/C87Z9ISfWUKmweDKN7Vh" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Line up the back cover and then press it tightly to snap it in place. Be careful that nothing gets pinch in the case and that the bottom cover doesn't bulge.&#x20;
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Install (4x) Case Screws

<figure><img src="/files/fB8iwvIDL5PBARLCLoMZ" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Install the (4x) case screws you removed from Step 1.&#x20;

To avoid stripping the existing threads out of the plastic material, we recommend turning the screw counter-clockwise until you feel the screw click, or drop into the existing threads.&#x20;
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Install V1.5 Sticker

<figure><img src="/files/TYjweRX4DLSrN1TVGMeT" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Using the **tweezers** to apply the V1.5 sticker from the V1.5 Rework Kit to the housing, just above the 12V printing above the Weidmuller connector.&#x20;

# Setting VH-109 To Access Point Mode

## Overview

This page will discuss how to program your VH-109 Robot Radio to act as an access point. This will allow you to test and practice driving with a single robot.

## Instructions

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Configure Your Computer

There are two options to configure your computer:

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="DHCP" %}
If the configuring computer has it's network interface configured to obtain an IP address via DHCP, the computer will be able to reach the VH-109 device at `10.XX.YY.1` (Client/STA mode) or `10.XX.YY.4` (AP mode).&#x20;

VH-109's programmed at the factory are configured to team #1 in Client/STA mode, setting the IP address to `10.0.1.1`.
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Network Assistant Tool" %}
The [Network Assistant Tool](/overview/programming-your-radio-at-home/network-assistant-tool) is a custom tool developed by Vivid-Hosting to configure your computer to connect to your VH-109 radio.&#x20;

Use the instructions on the Network Assistant Tool page to set a static IP address on your computer, then proceed to Step 2.
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Manually Assign Static IP" %}
The VH-109 device is also pre-programmed with a failsafe/management IP address in the `192.168.69.0/24` subnet to reach the management IP of the VH-109 radio.\
\
For example, the network interface on your driver station laptop can be temporarily configured to:

| IP Address    | `192.168.69.2`                |
| ------------- | ----------------------------- |
| Subnet Mask   | `255.255.255.0`               |
| Gateway       | `Leave Blank`                 |
| DNS           | `192.168.69.1 or Leave Blank` |
| {% endtab %}  |                               |
| {% endtabs %} |                               |
| {% endstep %} |                               |

{% step %}

### Connect To Your Radio

Create a wired or wireless connection between the computer and the radio.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Navigate To Radio Configuration Page

Depending on the type of connection, this can be reached one of three ways:

<table data-header-hidden><thead><tr><th width="334"></th><th></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Wired</td><td><code>http://192.168.69.1/</code></td></tr><tr><td>Wireless (DHCP) Factory Default</td><td><code>http://10.0.1.1/</code></td></tr><tr><td>Wireless (DHCP) Team Number Previously Set</td><td><code>http://10.XX.YY.1/</code></td></tr></tbody></table>

# VH-109 to VH-113 Conversion

{% hint style="danger" %}
If you are looking to have a VH-109 act as an access point for a single robot, you do not need to follow the instructions on this page. Instead, you should follow the instructions on [this page](/access-points/setting-vh-109-to-access-point-mode).

**Before You Continue:** Converting a VH-109 to act as a VH-113 Access Point requires understanding of some advanced network concepts, such as managed switches and VLANs. You should only need to do this if you are planning on connecting multiple robots to the same access point.&#x20;

{% endhint %}

## Overview

This page explains how to make your VH-109 Robot Radio behave like a VH-113 Access Point. This will enable the VH-109 to act as an access point for multiple robots (ex: an informal scrimmage, or offseason competition).&#x20;

Doing this does require the use of advanced networking techniques such as configuring managed switches and using VLANs.

<mark style="color:red;">DO NOT CONTINUE IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO HAVE ONE ROBOT CONNECT TO YOUR VH-109.</mark>&#x20;

The access point will now be reachable via the DS port at **`10.0.100.2`**&#x61;fter the firmware upgrade is complete

1. The access point will be configurable via the FIRST FMS, [Cheezy Arena](https://github.com/Team254/cheesy-arena) or the built-in configuration web page at `http://10.0.100.2/configuration`
2. The access point will be configured to pass traffic on VLAN 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 and 90 to the 6 GHz wireless interface
   {% endstep %}
   {% endstepper %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
A managed ethernet switch MUST be connected to the DS port as tagged VLANs are employed in this setup
{% endhint %}

# FMS AP Firmware Releases

{% hint style="danger" %}
Firmware release 1.2.8 resolves a potential memory corruption issue. We’ve released this firmware update to mitigate this issue and recommend that teams update to this firmware release or newer ASAP to prevent potential issues in the future.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}

{% endhint %}
